Investors and industry stakeholders convened at the QEC Investment Showcase held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, in Brisbane, to delve into the burgeoning landscape of Queensland’s critical minerals exploration projects.
This event, hosted by QEC & McCullough Robertson, provided a unique platform for investors and industry insiders to gain insights and connect with cutting-edge exploration initiatives in Queensland.
The event commenced with an insightful address by QEC Chair, Kim Wainwright, highlighting the significant strides Queensland is making in becoming a major exporter of critical minerals—an essential component for future technologies and sustainable energy solutions.
Ms Wainwright expressed enthusiasm for the Queensland Government’s Critical Minerals Strategy, underlining its focus on actionable steps to facilitate industry development and support exploration companies.
“Queensland is well-positioned to become a prominent exporter of critical minerals crucial for advancing future technologies and sustainable energy solutions,” said Ms Wainwright.
“Highlighting the immediate actions outlined in the Queensland Government’s Critical Minerals Strategy, such as a five-year rent exemption, establishment of critical minerals zones, and the creation of a specialised Critical Minerals Office, we anticipate substantial support for exploration companies embarking on critical minerals development.
Ms Wainwright further stressed the significance of the strategy’s $1 million initiative concentrating on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices, stating the importance of acknowledging ESG excellence within the industry to showcase Queensland’s competitive edge.
“QEC recently launched its ESG Toolbox for Explorers to aid small to mid-cap exploration companies in evaluating and conveying their ESG capabilities. Acknowledging ESG excellence within the industry will further bolster Queensland’s competitive advantage.”
“The projects featured at this QEC Investment Showcase event emphasise Queensland’s robust industry capabilities and the abundance of critical minerals on offer in the Sunshine State.”
PacGold’s Managing Director, Tony Schreck, provided insight into their high-grade gold discovery, stating, “The success in uncovering high-grade gold points to a highly prospective district-scale opportunity that PacGold is now revealing. Our ongoing drilling endeavors on geophysical targets along the strike from this gold mineralisation are a testament to our dedication and vision.”
Tony Fawdon, Executive Chairman & CEO of StanAurum Limited, highlighted the significance of tin as the “next black gold” and emphasised their approach in value-packaging the extensive in-ground mineral suite.
“Tin is undoubtedly the next black gold, and our efforts in effectively packaging the rich in-ground mineral suite underscore our commitment to harnessing its potential,” Mr Fawdon said.
Neil McIntyre, CEO of Diatreme Resources, shared insights into Diatreme’s Northern Silica Project, emphasising its potential to create new jobs and investments for Far North Queensland. He highlighted the project’s role in supporting global decarbonisation by supplying the booming solar PV industry, and underlined the alignment of the project with the Queensland Government’s Critical Minerals Strategy.
“Our Northern Silica Project near Cape Flattery will help advance this strategy, including the potential creation of a critical minerals silica hub and supporting by policy, open access export infrastructure,” said Mr McIntyre.
“This will help drive development of a mineral vital to the solar power industry, unlocking value for the people of Queensland, including First Nations communities,” Mr McIntyre said.
The QEC Investment Showcase included presentations from the above featured exploration companies, followed by an engaging panel discussion moderated by QEC Chair, Kim Wainwright.
The event successfully connected investors with promising exploration projects, paving the way for potential collaborations and investments that will drive Queensland’s critical minerals industry into a sustainable and prosperous future.
