Boost for new mineral exploration across Queensland
The Queensland Exploration Council (QEC) has congratulated the 24 mineral exploration companies that have been successful in the latest round of grants totalling nearly $4 million, as part of the Queensland Government Collaborative Exploration Initiative (CEI).
Chair of the QEC, Kim Wainwright said the membership group for explorers was amazed at the level of interest received this round, with more than 145 applications for grant support since the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Queensland explorers have been desperate for government support for months and the fact that more than double the number of applications were received this round, is proof these companies are hungry for capital to get exploring again,” Ms Wainwright said.
“It is pleasing to see recognition of the challenges faced by explorers right now living through the pandemic, with changes to the criteria to remove the need for matched funding,” Ms Wainwright said.
Ms Wainwright said the QEC was pleased round four of the current CEI had shown support for a diverse range of 25 minerals projects state-wide.
“Queensland’s prospectivity all across our state is deeply enriched with the minerals required to create future technologies the next generation will fiercely demand,” Ms Wainwright said.
“Less explored areas like those located in North Queensland or in the Wide Bay Burnett region have huge potential for mineral exploration, as well as more regional jobs that come with expansion of supply chains and infrastructure to get these projects off the ground.
“The QEC look forward to hearing of the success of these companies, which many are our members, and sharing this success with the wider investment community who are keen to continue supporting Queensland resources,” Ms Wainwright said.
